An Atlanta police officer and two prisoners were trapped in their vehicle Friday morning after it was struck by a taxi, officials said.

Atlanta fire officials used the Jaws of Life to free the officer and prisoners, police spokeswoman Kim Jones said.

The crash happened at Forsyth and Marietta streets. The officer’s car was traveling west on Marietta when a cab traveling east turned left and struck the patrol car on the driver’s side.

The officer and prisoners were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and were alert, conscious and breathing, Jones said.

The officer was later released from the hospital, police spokesman Officer Donald Hannah said. No other injuries were reported.

The taxi driver was cited for failure to yield.
