The lengthy process of widening Ga. 400 in Forsyth County has hit another milestone. The first section of expanded roadway on the southbound side-from Ga. 141 to McFarland Parkway-is now open to traffic.

Construction crews will now focus on widening the freeway from Ga. 369/Browns Bridge Road to Ga. 141/Peachtree Parkway. Work on that stretch is expected to finish and open to traffic in late Spring 2018. Work on the northbound lane wrapped up in September.

The project adding a lane in each direction is a joint effort between the Georgia Department of Transportation and the county. GDOT is managing the project and contributing some funding, while the remainder is coming from the Forsyth County transportation bond approved by voters in 2014. Total cost of the project is $47.5 million.
