Another bear was seen in a Gwinnett County backyard Monday, seemingly lured by a bird feeder.

This is at least the third bear found in someone's backyard in Gwinnett County recently; one was reported in Duluth and another in Sugar Hill within a week earlier this month.

This bear was trying to get into a bird feeder in a Duluth backyard, according to police. Photos on the Duluth Police Department’s Facebook page showed the bear attempting to get the seeds out of the feeder; it is unclear if the animal was successful.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources cautions residents to keep food, including bird feeders, out of their backyards in order to prevent bear visits. Garbage cans should be “bear-proof” or stored in areas where a bear cannot access them, like a garage, according to a department release.

If a bear wanders into your backyard, don’t try to engage with it, DNR said. You should never try to feed a bear or corner it. Bears are often only passing through, the release said.

Police officers will respond if you call about a bear sighting, but preventative measures are important, Duluth police said on Facebook.
