Two men were arrested Monday afternoon when Alpharetta officers clocked them driving in excess of 100 mph on Ga. 400, police said.

Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon told Channel 2 Action News arresting two “Super Speeders” in one day is unusual.

Georgia's Super Speeder law applies to a driver going 75 mph or more on a two-lane road or 85 mph or more on any highway, according to the Georgia Department of Driver Services.

In addition to the fines and fees paid to the jurisdiction where the speeding offense took place, a $200 Super Speeder state fee is to be paid by the convicted driver. Failure to pay that fee within 120 days of official notice would result in the suspension of the offender’s license or driving privileges.

“Lately, it seems like almost every other weekend we're making an arrest of someone driving over 100 mph,” Gordon said.

Emmanuel Beal was pulled over for driving 118 mph Monday morning, according to a police report. After the officer asked him to step out of the car, Beal asked, "Why?" the officer wrote in the report. “I told him he was under arrest for traveling 118 mph in a 65 (zone) and reckless driving.”

That’s when Beal said he needed to call his mother because he was late for an appointment.

Less than two hours later, police pulled over Kirk Brady for driving 114 mph, according to a police report.

Brady told the officer he was picking up his cousin for his uncle’s funeral.

“I find that ironic that he’s traveling at this speed,” Gordon said. “We don't want another family member to pass away.”

Both men were booked into jail on speeding and reckless driving charges and have since bonded out.
