Citizens of Alpharetta will have the opportunity to learn how to defend themselves in a dangerous situation on March 28.

The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety is following the lead of many communities across the country and will host its first ever class for the public on how to respond in an active shooter situation.

Training will last about an hour and will focus on what people should do if faced with an active shooter type event.

It is a free training event and will be held at the Alpharetta Branch of the American Legion, which is located at 201 Wills Road. No RSVP is needed and the class begins at 6:30 p.m.

Marietta hosted a similar class in December 2015, where more than 800 people attended.
