Due to the destruction from Tropical Storm Irma, Roswell will pick up additional yard waste from its residents.

The city asks that residents limit the size of bundles to expedite pickup, and to cut tree limbs down to four feet in length.

Yard waste collection is currently "behind," the city says, but its contractor is "working diligently" to collect debris that the storm left behind last week.

Due to the large amounts of yard waste, the city says it may not get all the yard waste on residents’ usual pickup day, but says the collectors will be there as soon as they can and to leave waste by the curb.

The city is also asking residents with large amounts of storm debris — including fencing and roofing — to contact the city sanitation staff at 770-817-6731. Municipal solid waste and construction debris must be disposed of separately in order to comply with state law.

Roswell estimates that it will be “at least two more weeks” before yard waste collection is stabilized.

Questions about collection of garbage, recycling or yard waste in Roswell should be directed to 770-641-3961.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
