After Christmas, bring your dead tree to Gwinnett park for recycling

Getting sick of all those pine needles on the floor? Mark your calendar for Dec. 26 through Jan. 31, when you can put that dead Christmas tree into a wood chipper.

Okay, you aren’t allowed to do the honor yourself (someone could lose a finger!) but the city of Suwanee will do it for you. The city is taking part in Keep Georgia Beautiful’s annual “Bring One for the Chipper” event, which encourages people with real Christmas trees to bring them to a wood chipper, where the trees will be turned into mulch for local parks. The effort resulted in mulch from 1,600 trees being spread in Suwanee parks in 2017.

You can bring your tree to Sims Lake Park at 4600 Suwanee Dam Road between 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. from Dec. 26 to Jan. 31. On Saturday, Jan. 6, volunteers will be at the park to help you unload your tree and distribute free sawtooth oak and catalpa tree seedlings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
