After reaching capacity multiple times this summer, Gwinnett County Animal Shelter has extended adoption discounts on dogs and cats for the second time.

Cats can be adopted for $10 and dogs can be adopted for $30 under the extended discount, which began in July. All pets will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and made up-to-date on all their vaccinations.

The shelter reached capacity on Tuesday and accepted 12 cats that were displaced by Hurricane Harvey on Friday.

“We need help from our local residents and rescue groups to care for these animals that are now here in our community, and I know from experience that we can count on them,” said Cindy Wiemann, assistant manager of the shelter, in a statement.

The Gwinnett County Animal Shelter is located at 884 Winder Hwy. in Lawrenceville. Adoption hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
