Acworth residents to decide on Sunday alcohol change

Acworth residents will decide on Nov. 6 whether the city’s dining establishments may sell alcoholic beverages at 11 a.m. instead of 12:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Governor Nathan Deal signed into law legislation on May 8 that allows counties and cities to move up the serving of alcohol on Sundays to 11 a.m. if approved by the voters in their districts.

In other recent action, the Acworth Board of Aldermen decided to:

  • increase sanitation rates at 50 cents from $21 to $21.50 for residential and $7.50 from $30.50 to $38 for commercial, beginning Aug. 1.
  • pay $650,000 to ASTRA Construction Services to perform construction work on the Taylor Street/Mitchell Hill Drive Extension Road Project
  • create two positions of crime intelligence analyst and evidence and property technician.
  • pay Georgia Green Landscaping $112,775 for a one-year mowing contract with two one-year options.
  • renew a one-year contract with Bartow Paving Company for $100,000 for asphalt paving and repair.
  • award a $69,149 contract to Integrated Construction and Nobility, Inc. for the Logan Farm Park Trail Expansion Project.
  • approve a Woman's Triathlon on Aug. 5 at Dallas Landing Park by Georgia Multi Sports.
  • approve a Cars on the Lake event on Sept. 29 at Dallas Landing Park by the Save Acworth History Foundation.
  • approve a Polar Plunge on Feb. 23 at Cauble Park for Special Olympics Georgia.
