Acworth city officials issued an update Aug. 30 on their downtown revitalization efforts that have been moving forward for more than a decade.

The most recent initiatives have been in the planning stages for a couple of years and some of the preparation work began this week with more progression continuing during September, according to a city statement.

The Open Air Acworth Depot Pavilion and the adjacent clock have been removed in anticipation of the work to be done in that area. The pavilion will be relocated to the corner of Cowan and Cowan Connector. The clock will be relocated in the new Depot Park at the corner of Main and Lemon Streets.

A replica train depot will be constructed in this park that has been a small parking lot with a caboose on display. Inside the depot, there will be a history center where guests may hear recorded stories from long-time residents and see the history of the community. A portion of the replica depot will have public restrooms and a landscaped pedestrian plaza with seating areas will be a part of the park.
