Bob Gray speaks to the crowd of attendees at the Georgia 6th Congressional District debate in Marietta on March 29.

If there are such things as moral victories, Bob Gray can take one from Tuesday’s special election.

In the race to fill Tom Price’s seat in Georgia’s sixth congressional district, Gray was the only other candidate outside of Jon Ossoff and Karen Handel to win a precinct.

Gray, a former Johns Creek councilman, took home wins in three north Fulton County neighborhoods. Still, he fell short of capturing enough votes to go head-to-head with Ossoff in a runoff. Gray finished with 10.8 percent of the vote while fellow Republican Handel captured 19.8.

An AJC ma p illustrating the breakdowns of how each 6th District precinct voted shows Gray took wins in Johns Creek and Milton.

Here’s how things shaped out in those neighborhoods:

ML071 (Gray: 35%, Ossoff: 30%, Handel: 27%)

JC13B (Gray: 36%, Moody: 25%, Handel: 18%)

JC13A (Gray: 32%, Ossoff: 26%, Moody: 21%)

Handel won eight precincts and Ossoff won the rest. Gray finished third overall in a field of 18 candidates.

While campaigning, Gray ran on being a businessman and a “willing partner” to President Donald Trump. Gray even borrowed his slogan from Trump, going with: “America First. Conservative Always.”

Gray told The Washington Post: “If this was any other year or we didn’t have the kind of president that we have, I would not have run. I recognized if Trump is one thing, he is a disrupter. And if you want significant change, you need a leader who is able to disrupt.”

Taking to Twitter late Tuesday night, Gray threw his support behind Handel.
