The rains that have drenched metro Atlanta over Christmas and into the week of New Year's Eve are creating havoc for a DeKalb County crew trying to fix a water main break in Decatur.

There's plenty of water outside, thanks to the rain, but if you live near Superior Avenue and Willow Lane in DeKalb, it may turn into a thirsty Thursday for you. At least for a while.

So that crews working to fix a water main break on North Superior Avenue can continue with repairs, DeKalb Watershed Management will shut down the line on New Year's Eve between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Service interruptions are expected to last about four hours. The break happened Monday, Dec. 28. Heavy downpours in the metro Atlanta area have so far kept the DeKalb repair crew from replacing the broken line.

"The workers are sitting in their trucks, waiting for the rain to stop," DeKalb Public Information Officer Shiera Campbell told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "They're basically babysitting the temporary fix right now."
