Some Cobb County homes were without power early Monday afternoon as rain and winds from tropical storm Irma moved in on the metro Atlanta area.

Cobb EMC spokesperson Leslie Thompson said so far, workers have been able to remotely restore or reroute power from the cooperative’s control room fairly quickly.

“If it’s more extensive damage, they can send out a crew with a truck,” Thompson said.

Cobb EMC crews are working 12-hour shifts with contract crews on standby.

As heavy rains loosen tree roots, Thompson cautioned, high winds may knock down branches and trees, bringing down power lines. People should assume all downed power lines are energized and stay far away, she added.

Downed power lines can be reported at 770-429-2100.
