Clayton County will be the new home of The Georgia Radio Museum and Hall of Fame.

The museum will be housed in the Forest Park Community Center at 696 Main Street. The museum, founded in 2007, is currently in St. Marys, a coastal town near the Florida border and about 334 miles southeast of Forest Park. The Forest Park City Council approved the relocation earlier this month.

“They had outgrown the space at the St Marys Welcome Center,” said St. Marys Tourism Director Angela Wigger said of the museum’s reason for leaving. “It’s been a very popular attraction here. We’re sorry to see them go but wish them well in Forest Park.”

The museum will be in St. Marys until March 31. It houses 200 antique radios, radio equipment and other memorabilia, including the Georgia Radio Wall of Fame. Renovation and construction is slated to begin in April with a projected opening date of Memorial Day Weekend.

The relocation puts the museum near other Atlanta-area museums and historic places of interest such as The Road to Tara museum in downtown Jonesboro as well as the College Football Hall of Fame and The Center for Civil and Human Rights, both in Atlanta.
