The Gwinnett County School of Mathematics, Science and Technology is the best high school in Georgia, according to U.S. News & World Report.

The prominent news site rated the Gwinnett school the nation’s 27th best high school, a decline from its fourth overall ranking in 2015. The rankings were released Tuesday.

The school, near Lawrenceville, is often ranked among the nation’s top high schools. It had the highest average combined SAT score of any Georgia public school in 2015, 1848. Its graduation rate last year was 99 percent, fourth-best statewide of any public school with more than 100 students. U.S. News has ranked the school Georgia’s best each of the past four years.

Criteria used to determine the rankings included how the school fared in comparison to others in its state, the academic performance of the school’s black, Hispanic and low-income students, its graduation rate and how students performed in Advanced Placement or the International Baccalaureate program.

The School for the Talented and Gifted, in Dallas, Texas, was ranked as the nation’s best high school. Columbus High School, which ranked 80th, was the only other Georgia high school in the top 100.
