Investigators are working to identify a man whose body was found floating in Lake Lanier, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

It was the second time in eight days a body was found in the lake.

Around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, a lake-goer on a personal watercraft spotted the body about 100 yards from the shore of Old Federal Campground near Flowery Branch, investigators said. The sheriff’s office marine unit removed the body. The Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Hall County firefighters were also at the scene.

“According to the preliminary investigation, the body of the white male had been in the water for approximately a week,” the Hall sheriff’s office said.

Investigators were unable to determine a cause or manner of death. The body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact investigators at 770-533-7187.

On Sept. 6 around 8:30 a.m., game wardens were notified of a body in the water near East Bank Park in Buford, a DNR spokesman said. Gwinnett County firefighters recovered the body of a man, later identified as Dinesh Thakorbhai Patel, 67, of Suwanee.

Investigators believe Patel may have experienced a medical emergency before falling into the water and drowning.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
