A hunter scouting potential areas in northern Paulding County found human bones, police said Tuesday.

The skeletal remains were found Friday afternoon in a shallow grave off Dabbs Bridge Road, near the intersection with Harmony Grove Church Road, near Dallas, according to Cpl. Ashley Henson with the Paulding sheriff’s office. The remains were found in a wooded area near an empty subdivision and North Paulding High School.

The hunter, whose name was not released, called police after finding the bones, and Paulding deputies contacted the GBI, Henson said. The GBI will conduct an autopsy to determine the sex, possibly the identity, and how the person died, according to police.

“We’ll be reviewing our missing person cases and asking neighboring jurisdictions to do the same,” Henson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

It was not known how long the remains may have been in the area.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 770-443-3015.
