Gwinnett County school counselor Robin Zorn was named Tuesday as the top school counselor in the nation.

The honor was bestowed on Zorn by Jill Cook, assistant director of the American School Counselors Association, during a surprise ceremony Tuesday morning at Zorn’s school, Mason Elementary School,.

Zorn’s husband and children were on hand for the announcement, as was J.Alvin Wilbanks, the school system’s CEO and superintendent.

“It’s a pleasure to recognize someone who works for this school, this school district and the state,” Wilbanks told Zorn.

He said officials at every level “are proud of you, as is the nation.”

Zorn had previously been named Georgia’s Counselor of the Year.
