A Doraville man was charged with murder for allegedly shooting and killing a former Forest Park police officer.

Jessie Clyde Murray Jr., has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault for the alleged shooting altercation early Sunday morning, authorities said.

Police say Murray and Nathan Adams got into a verbal altercation at Benefield’s bar in Clayton County, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Murray allegedly went to his car to get a gun, and Adams came outside and a physical struggle began, Channel 2 reports.

Murray told police Adams shot at him and he returned fire, killing Adams, Channel 2 reports.

Murray claims self-defense, saying he was trying to protect his wife who was inside the bar, according to Channel 2.
