A man was detained after he crashed into another vehicle while driving the wrong way early Saturday, Atlanta police said.

The crash happened on westbound Langford Parkway near Greenbriar Parkway, police spokeswoman Stephanie Brown said in a statement.

The driver was identified Monday by Atlanta police as 42-year-old Christopher Williams.

He drove onto the road using an exit ramp, Channel 2 Action News reported. He drove less than a mile going east before crashing into another car, according to the news station.

The woman driving the other car was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, Channel 2 reported.

Williams “was detained (and) failed field sobriety testing,” Brown said, “leading us to believe he could be under the influence of alcohol.”

Police said Williams tried to run from the scene after the crash before officers caught him.

“He was all right, because he got out and tried to leave the scene,” Lt. Jeff Cantin told Channel 2. “He tried to run on foot, just a little bit, not too far, because he was shaken up a little bit.”
