2 women accused of selling, possessing meth near East Cobb elementary school

Two Cobb County mothers are facing nearly a dozen charges after police said they were dealing drugs near an elementary school.

Two women are accused of having and selling crystal methamphetamine within a few hundred feet of an East Cobb elementary school, authorities said Wednesday.

Latrice Patton and Brenda Craver were arrested in a neighborhood on Keheley Road, which is within eyesight of Keheley Elementary School, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Neighbors called 911 after they saw a suspicious truck at the corner. Police told Channel 2 they found crystal meth on them and in Patton’s nearby house, which is located within 600 feet of the school.

Patton’s daughter, Jordan Harris, spoke to Channel 2 and apologized for her mother’s alleged crimes.

“I understand why the charges were more severe,” Harris said. “For the safety of the children, I totally understand that, and I know she understands that as well.”

Harris told the news station she hasn’t heard from her 40-year-old mother since she was arrested Tuesday night, but she said she loves her mom and thinks jail time could be what her mother needs.

Patton and Craver face possession of methamphetamine in loitering charges, according to Cobb County Jail records. Craver faces additional charges of possession of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of meth with intent to distribute and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, Patton remained in jail on a $6,000 bond, while Craver remained in jail on a $25,000 bond, jail records show.
