Athens police are seeking two men in connection with an attempted rape of a woman.

A woman said two men assaulted and attempted to rape her while she was walking home, Athens police said.

The woman said she left the Golden Pantry store on West Broad Street on Sunday and encountered two men in the parking lot of the Hilltop Grille, police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez said in a news release.

The men followed her behind the University Oaks apartments, where they attacked her, threw her down and hit her, Rodriguez said. They allegedly pulled the victim’s shirt up and her pants down, and ripped her underwear.

When the woman screamed for her husband, the men ran from the scene, police said.

One of the men was described as about 5-foot-6 and was wearing black sweatpants, white boxers, a beanie and a dark hoodie, according to the release. The other man was described as about 6 feet tall; there was no clothing description.
