Two suspects were in custody Thursday after allegedly robbing a Moreland Avenue grocery store and leading police officers on a chase.

The robbery happened about 9 a.m. at the Kroger store at 1160 Moreland Ave., in the portion of southeast Atlanta that is inside DeKalb County.

“Responding officers observed the suspects leaving in a vehicle and pursued them to Memorial [Drive] and Clifton [Road],” DeKalb police Major S.R. Fore told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Fore said the suspects abandoned the vehicle and attempted to run, but were taken into custody.

Atlanta police initially reported that shots were fired inside the store, but Fore said in an email that no shots were fired.

Kroger spokesman Glynn Jenkins released the following statement: “Safety is a top priority at Kroger. No customers or associates were injured during the incident. Kroger notified local law enforcement immediately and the suspect was arrested shortly thereafter.”

Jenkins said the store is temporarily closed for police to complete their investigation.

The incident was the second robbery at the store in recent weeks, according to Channel 2 Action News.
