A seven-time convicted felon is going back to jail after a judge sentenced him to eight years Friday in a 2015 New Year’s Eve DUI and police chase that left an officer injured.

Ronald Wayne Kidd, 55, of Rossville, led police on a 16-mile chase exceeding 100 mph near the Marietta Square, Cobb County district attorney spokeswoman Kimberly Isaza said.

About 10 p.m. that night, police spotted Kidd driving a stolen white Kia Sedona from a Tennessee carjacking, Isaza said. During the chase, Kidd rear-ended an officer’s car and injured him, passed through a Chili’s parking lot at The Avenue West Cobb and drove on the wrong side of the road.

“This case is also a poignant example of how our police officers risk life and limb each day to protect us,” Assistant District Attorney Kimberly Schwartz said.

Kidd was convicted of simple assault on a police officer, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, possession of cocaine, DUI and reckless driving.

He has been in the Cobb County jail since his Dec. 31, 2015 arrest and will get credit for time served. Kidd will also be extradited to Tennessee on carjacking charges.

Police said Kidd has seven previous felony convictions, including two for fleeing and eluding police.
