A man accused of breaking into a woman’s home through the basement and attacking her, turned himself into DeKalb police Thursday, police said.

Romelle Nathaniel James, 19, was arrested and charged with home invasion, armed robbery and aggravated assault and battery in connection with a Lithonia woman's assault Monday.

Carla Catalon-Scott, 52, was lying in bed when a man forced his way in through a basement window and demanded money from her, according to a DeKalb County police report.

She told Channel 2 Action News the stranger stabbed her in the face four times, fracturing both her cheek bones and bruising her.

The man who attacked her had a steak knife and stole Catalon-Scott’s handgun from her bedside table, firing at her once but missing.

Catalon-Scott told Channel 2 Action News James might still have her gun.

He was booked into the DeKalb County Jail Wednesday.
