Early one morning in September, Will Hudson was shot eight times while he was at work as a security guard at an extended stay hotel in Norcross.
On Thursday, the 46-year-old was wheeled out of Gwinnett Medical Center surrounded by his family, Channel 2 Action News reported.
His doctor called him a “miracle patient.” Hudson said, “It’s been tough, but I thank God I’m here.”
Gwinnett County police say Xavier Geder, a resident of the hotel, fired the shots at Hudson.
“I seen the guy on my left, I had no problems with the guy, and all of a sudden he started shooting,” Hudson said.
Hudson tried to crawl to safety, but collapsed.
“He came up at me and shot me three more times,” Hudson said. “Then he went to shoot me in the head and the gun jammed.
“People don’t get eight shots. Some people only get one and it’s over with, and I got eight.”
Hudson’s family credits trauma doctor Luttrell Toussaint with his recovery.
Toussaint said of Hudson, “He really is a miracle patient. He is someone that we looked at and were worried about from Day 1.”
As for Geder, he was arrested a few days after the incident and is still in the Gwinnett jail on an aggravated assault charge.
Added Hudson’s wife, “This is just the perfect Christmas gift.”
