Derrick Deonta Thurman was shot during a gunfight at his apartment complex in March 2016.

Three months later — convinced Timothy Hobbs was connected to the shooting — Thurman followed him to his girlfriend’s apartment and fatally shot the 38-year-old father of three.

A jury convicted Thurman, 26, of the revenge murder Thursday and he was sentenced to life in prison, DeKalb County District Attorney spokeswoman Yvette Jones said in a news release.

Witnesses told police that Thurman spotted Hobbs on June 11, 2016, in the parking lot of the apartment complex on Flat Shoals Road.

“He later trailed the victim from one building to another and then shot him in the back eight times,” Jones said.

Thurman was identified from surveillance video that showed the deadly shooting.

He was arrested in December after authorities discovered he was visiting relatives and getting medical treatment in North Dakota.
