Police shot a suspect in the arm in northwest Atlanta on Thursday night, authorities said.

The incident happened behind a gas station in the 1400 block of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, Atlanta police said.

Officers spotted a suspicious vehicle, possibly linked to some robberies, driving erratically, and the vehicle ran into a pole, Maj. Adam Lee told Channel 2 Action News.

The suspect left the vehicle and ran behind the BP gas station, where he was shot, Lee said. The suspect was described as alert, conscious and breathing.

The officer who shot him suffered a knee injury, according to Lee.

Both the suspect and the officer were transported to a hospital for treatment.

There was no immediate word on charges.
