Police are searching for a person of interest in a shooting at the intersection of Peachtree Place and Cypress Street.

Police are searching for a person of interest in connection with a shooting that injured a man in downtown Atlanta last week.

Maurice Leeks had just left the Midtown MARTA station about 10 p.m. on Sept. 6 when he saw two men arguing in the intersection of Peachtree Place and Cypress Street, Atlanta police Officer Stephanie Brown said in a statement.

Brown said the fight escalated when one of the men pulled a gun, chased the other man and fired shots at him.

One of the bullets struck Leeks in his upper right thigh, Atlanta police said. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and treated for his injuries.

Authorities described the person of interest as wearing a dark-colored tank top, jeans and baseball cap. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or go online at www.StopCrimeATL.com. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still remain eligible for a $2,000 reward.
