Sedarius Deangelo Scott was given a second chance.

He was just 17 when he was convicted of an armed robbery in 2011.

Judge Karen Beyers said she gave him an opportunity to turn his life around. Scott was released from prison in February 2013.

Five months after his release, he committed a second armed robbery, squandering that second chance.

Scott, now 25, sat before the same judge Wednesday. This time she sentenced him to life in prison plus five years for the armed robbery of a McDonald’s in Gwinnett County.

According to a release sent by the Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office, Scott and Damien Parker went to a McDonald’s on Lawrenceville Highway in Lilburn and robbed the store and an employee. Five employees and two customers were held at gunpoint as Scott and Parker stole cash from the manager’s office and an employee, according to the release.

As the men were leaving the fast food restaurant, an employee followed them and alerted police that Scott and Parker were leaving in a Ford Explorer. The men then led police on a high-speed chase to a Norcross apartment complex, where they jumped from the SUV, according to the release.

Officers chased the men through the complex and over several fences before Parker and Scott escaped.

Evidence later showed Scott lived nearby and his DNA was found on the Explorer. He was found guilty of two counts of armed robbery, three counts of aggravated assault, obstruction of an officer and two weapons charges.

Parker was convicted in May 2014 and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
