Marietta man allegedly behind 6 metro bank robberies

A man faces federal armed robbery charges after prosecutors said he held bank employees at gunpoint and forced them to give him cash at six banks in Cobb and Fulton counties.

Kevin Williamson, 51, of Marietta, was indicted by a federal grand jury after a string of robberies were reported from Feb. 4 to Sept. 8.

“The arrest and indictment in this case put an end to an active, eight-month crime spree, and hopefully returned a sense of safety to the community in Marietta, where most of the robberies occurred,” U.S. Attorney John Horn said in a news release.

Williamson allegedly committed robberies in Marietta at Fifth Third Bank, Regions Bank, BB&T Bank and PNC Bank. He is also accused of robbing Fidelity Bank in Atlanta and Renasant Bank in Johns Creek.

Officials used surveillance video and photos to arrest Williamson, according to the release.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into the alleged robberies.
