A man walking in the southbound travel lanes of I-75 in Cobb County late Wednesday died after two vehicles hit him, police said.

Dante R. Scott, 28, of Kennesaw, was near Bells Ferry Road about 11:25 p.m. when the accident happened, according to Cobb police spokesman Wayne Delk.

Scott first was hit by a 2012 Ford box van driven by Jorge Caballero, 64, of Marietta, Delk said.

A 2013 Hyundai Sonata driven by Jason Zaletanski, 31, of McDonough, hit Scott as he was in the interstate, according to police. The Sonata was behind the Ford.

Scott was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Delk said.

The drivers and their passengers were not injured and refused medical treatment at the scene.

No charges are expected.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
