A man was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his child’s mother in 2015 in Henry County.

A 31-year-old man got a life sentence in prison Tuesday for murdering his child’s mother outside a Kroger in Henry County, a spokeswoman for prosecutors said.

Teddy McNeil Jr. pleaded guilty to malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault in the 2015 incident in McDonough, district attorney spokeswoman Megan Matteucci said.

McNeil shot 42-year-old Amy Pitts in the parking lot of the store, Matteucci said. After the couple argued in his vehicle, Pitts got out and McNeil fired one shot, which hit Pitts.

McNeil then ran from the parking lot, Matteucci said. Pitts was taken to Atlanta Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

“Cases like this underscore the seriousness of domestic violence in our community,” Henry County District Attorney Darius Pattillo said. “We hope this plea and sentence help to bring closure to the victim’s family as they continue to heal.”
