Authorities have released the name of the man who was shot to death Saturday in Newton County.

Daniel Lopez Antonio, 27, lived at the Russell Drive address where the shooting happened, Favel Edwards of the sheriff’s office said in an emailed statement Tuesday.

“At this time the cause of death was from a gunshot wound and the manner of death is ruled a homicide,” Edwards said, citing the coroner’s office.

A homeless man was charged in the shooting. Miguel Angel Garcia-Martinez of Mexico, was arrested Saturday.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cortney Morrison would not comment on a possible motive, but said a probable cause was established to obtain an arrest warrant for Garcia-Martinez.

Garcia-Martinez faces murder and aggravated assault charges, according to the warrant.

Investigators on Saturday said they believed the shooter was in custody and that there was no further threat to the community.
