An Athens man died Sunday after he was injured in a domestic violence incident.
Athens-Clarke County police said Antonio Wilkerson, 39, died from a puncture wound to the chest. Officers described the incident as a “heated domestic dispute” and found Wilkerson semiconscious.
Wilkerson’s wife and four young children were home at the time. After police arrived, he was taken to a local hospital, where he died. Wilkerson’s body was sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.
The preliminary investigation indicates the incident may have involved self-defense. No arrests have been made.
