A disoriented driver didn’t even try to run after crashing a stolen car, ending a police chase Tuesday.

The chase started in Union City when police say an 18-year-old man stole a Chrysler 300, according to Channel 2 Action News.

VIDEO: Stolen car crashes in debris on Moreland Avenue

The short chase ended with a single-vehicle crash, Georgia State Patrol Sgt. James Buchanan told Channel 2. When the car exited I-20 at Moreland Avenue at such a high rate of speed, driver Damon Javon Clay couldn’t negotiate the turn, Buchanan said.

Clay lost control, leaving the car twisted against the guard rail. Officers found a black handgun on the floorboard, the television station reported.

When Clay got out of the passenger door, Union City police officers immediately took him into custody.

Police believe the driver may have stolen the car after being offered a ride, according to Channel 2.

An investigation is ongoing.
