A man accused of slashing a woman’s throat during a robbery in Midtown was arrested in Myrtle Beach, S.C., police said.

Anthony Greene, 44, of Lithonia, allegedly attacked his victim in a pay parking lot in Atlanta on March 26, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

Marla Franks was at a pay station at Juniper and 5th streets when Greene grabbed her purse off her shoulder, Atlanta police spokesman John Sell said.

A witness chased Greene, but he dropped the purse and lunged at the witness, who then backed away. The witness was able to return the purse to Franks, Sell said.

Franks needed 17 stitches to close a 6-inch wound.

The horrific robbery is not normal in Midtown, Atlanta’s Zone 5 commander, Maj. Scott Kreher, told Channel 2 Action News.

“Midtown is a very safe place to be,” Kreher said.

After police released a sketch of the suspect and compared it to surveillance video taken in the area on the day of the attack, the witness and Franks were able to identify Greene.

“(The witness) went further that evening and the next day to ride with our officers to try and locate this gentleman,” Kreher told Channel 2.

The investigation led police to Myrtle Beach, where Greene was arrested April 6. He was booked into the Fulton County jail Tuesday.

Greene faces charges of robbery and two counts of aggravated assault, Sell said.
