A Clark Atlanta University student was critically injured in a shooting at a residence near school, the university said.
According to Atlanta police and the university, 22-year-old Craig Burns was in an altercation with the shooter Thursday.
“Following the altercation, Burns returned to his room where the shooting occurred,” the university told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Officers responded to the scene in the 800 block of Beckwith Street just before 12:20 a.m. Friday, Atlanta police Officer Stephanie Brown said.
Burns was rushed to surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital with a stomach wound.
He is currently in intensive care, the university said. A Clark Atlanta representative is at the hospital with Burns, whose family is headed to Atlanta from Indiana.
“Our greatest concern, at this moment, is Mr. Burns’ full recovery,” the university said in a statement. “Our hearts are hurting and we ask that everyone in the CAU campus community join us in prayers for his restoration and healing, and for his family and friends as well.”
No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting.
