A woman was found shot to death in a car with a 1-year-old girl inside, DeKalb County police said Monday.

Authorities responded to the shooting about 11:30 p.m. Sunday on Terry Mill Road, according to police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell.

“By the grace of God the child was not hurt,” Campbell said.

Police said at least two shooters fired at 33-year-old Tamika Trimble from two locations while she was behind the wheel.

“The driver fled and the other vehicle followed,” DeKalb police Capt. A.W. Ford told Channel 2 Action News.

Neighbors told Channel 2 the way Trimble’s car was parked in the driveway made them think she was trying to find a safe place to get away.

Police found the second location littered with about 12 shell casings, the news station reported.

They also found the child still in Trimble’s car. The girl is in the custody of the Division of Family and Children Services, according to Channel 2.

No other details have been released about the shooting.
