A man was injured in an early morning shootout near Sweet Auburn Grocery store in Atlanta.

Officers near 200 Auburn Ave. heard gunfire and saw a Nissan Altima and a Mercedes Benz C300 leave the area about 3:45 a.m. Monday, Atlanta police Officer Donald Hannah said.

They learned one man left the area after a fight between two groups of men and returned with others.

Gunfire erupted and those involved in the shooting sped from the area in the Nissan Altima and the Mercedes-Benz, Hannah said.

“Immediately after the shots were fired, dispatch reported that a man was laying on the sidewalk near the intersection of J. W. Dobbs and Piedmont Avenue,” Hannah said.

He had a gunshot wound to his upper back, police said.

He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

No arrests have been made.

“Our investigators are working to gather additional information in this case,” Hannah said.
