A North Georgia man indicted on federal drug distribution charges is also accused of ordering the beating of a man over $500 that went missing, officials said.

Wesley Gage Weldon, 41, of Ringgold, is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and other offenses in connection with a January beating in Catoosa County at which Weldon was not present, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported.

In a hearing Tuesday, Catoosa County sheriff’s Lt. Jason Sullivan testified that three associates of Weldon attacked the victim across from where Weldon lived, the newspaper reported.

The victim was led to a field at gunpoint before sunrise, stripped, bound with electrical tape, punched and pistol-whipped, according to testimony.

Weldon is in custody in connection with the beating charges, the newspaper reported.

He was indicted on drug charges in February in Tennessee, the newspaper reported. According to the indictment, federal prosecutors think Weldon made at least $255,000 in illegal methamphetamine sales.

Weldon’s brother, Tom, represented Ringgold in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2009 to 2016, according to the House website.
