The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said it is looking into an incident in which a 44-year-old man died after McDonough police used a Taser on him.

Late Saturday, police responded to a robbery/domestic disturbance involving two people at a motel on Old Industrial Boulevard, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said. A motel guest pushed his way into another guest’s room and attempted a robbery, Miles said.

Police encountered the person, identified as Jackie Sanders Weems Jr., who resisted and fought with officers.

Police used a Taser on Weems before taking him into custody, Miles said. Weems became unresponsive while he was still on the scene, and police rendered aid before an ambulance arrived.

Weems was taken to Piedmont Henry Hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Sunday, Miles said. No officers were injured.

Results of the GBI investigation will be turned over to the Henry County District Attorney's Office.
