A friend of a man killed in last week's shooting on eastbound I-20 has been arrested in connection with the incident, DeKalb County police said Monday.

Officers investigating the shooting about 5:30 p.m. June 7 found Jonathan Williams of Villa Rica dead in a vehicle east of Panola Road, DeKalb police Maj. Stephen Fore told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Witnesses interviewed believe the shots may have come from a small red vehicle and there is no indication the victim and suspect had any interaction prior to the shooting,” he said at the time.

On Monday, Fore said the medical examiner’s investigation revealed a different story: Williams, 19, “died as a result of a gunshot that came from inside his vehicle and would have been fired by the front seat passenger.”

That passenger, friend Terrance Elane, left the scene of the shooting, Fore said. Elane was arrested Saturday on multiple charges, including felony murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Fore said.

He was being held Monday in the DeKalb jail, according to online records.
