Nearly a year after a Forsyth County jailer was fired for sexually assaulting an inmate, authorities charged and arrested him on the accusations Friday.

Noah Boswell allegedly assaulted the inmate between May 1, 2016 and May 17, 2016, The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. He was charged with custodial sexual assault and was booked into the Forsyth County jail. He has since bonded out on $5,630.

An internal investigation into the allegations was launched In July 2016 and ended in August that year with Boswell’s termination.

Forsyth County officials claim former Sheriff Duane K. Piper’s administration “did not conduct a criminal investigation concurrent with the internal affairs review nor did they request the GBI to criminally investigate the incident.”

That changed when Sheriff Ron Freeman ordered a review of all previous major internal affairs cases and found this incident was not criminally investigated, the release stated.

“Based on this finding, a criminal investigation into the alleged felony sexual contact with a person in custody was launched,” Forsyth County Sheriff’s Deputy Doug Rainwater said in the release.

The investigation ended in May, a year after the allegations first surfaced.

Officials have not said why the case was not criminally investigated after the internal affairs case was completed.
