A man and woman have been charged with murder in Fayette County in connection with their child’s drowning.

A man and woman are facing murder charges in connection with their 2-year-old child's drowning in June in Fayette County, authorities said.

Chezz McCann and Jamie Powell, both 27, are in the Fayette County jail without bond, sheriff’s spokesman Joseph Waldrop said Saturday. Both are charged with second-degree murder.

The couple were taken into custody by police in Danville, Ill., recently and extradited to Georgia, Peachtree City Police Chief Janet Moon said. The couple left the area after the incident.

About 7 p.m. on June 5, officials responded to a Loblolly Circle address, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The boy was found unresponsive in Lake Peachtree.

Officials began CPR on the boy, authorities said. The child was taken to Piedmont Fayette Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Both parents were at home at the time of the drowning and were unaware of the child’s whereabouts for an extended period of time, Moon said.
