Father of 3 shot at convenience store

Neighbors said they are installing cameras and vowing to have packages sent elsewhere.

The GBI and local police are searching for a man who shot and injured a clerk at a convenience store in west Georgia.

Vishnu Chaudhari, a father of three, was shot about 10 p.m. Saturday in what started as an attempted robbery at a Quick Stop in Meriwether County, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Woodbury police Chief Wesley Favors told the news station the shooter first demanded money from a janitor, who was forced behind the counter.

That’s when Chaudhari swung a stick at the shooter.

"He turns and shoots the cashier in the left shoulder at close range," Favors said.

The bullet went through Chaudhari's back, and he called 911, Channel 2 reported.

The shooter, captured on surveillance video with his face covered, ran out the back of the store and into nearby woods.

“He's wearing a hoodie and several items that can be hindering to the video, but I think we should be able to make out who the possible suspect was," Favors said.

This is the second time a person held Chaudhari at gunpoint at the Quick Stop in the past six months, Favors told Channel 2.

The store is on Main Street in Woodbury, about 70 miles southwest of Atlanta.

Police are investigating if the same suspect was involved in both incidents.

Chaudhari is expected to recover from his injuries, Favors said.
