A Gainesville man faces child cruelty charges after authorities say he left his 1-year-old son in a hot car.

Mateo Alonzo Y. Alonzo, 31, was arrested Friday after a witness found the man’s son inside the car on the 1300 block of Marlow Drive and called 911, Hall County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Ware said in a news release. An immigration hold was also placed on Alonzo.

Ware said the dehydrated child was taken to Hall County Medical Center, but he didn’t have any other injuries and is doing fine.

Officials did not say how long the child had been in the car. It was 75 degrees in Gainesville that day.

The child’s mother was at work at the time of the incident.

Hall County’s Division of Family and Children Services was notified of the incident.
