Family members grieving over the shooting death of 17-year-old Jahlah Branch last weekend in Snellville say he died protecting others, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Saviour Branch, Jahlah’s father, said his son shielded two girls from a gunshot before he was killed, Channel 2 reported.

“My son pushed one girl out of the way and then her little cousin was just standing there,” Saviour Branch said. “Jahlah just grabbed her and covered her and that’s how he got shot.”

The younger Branch was among about 100 teens at a house party in the 2900 block of Aviator Circle when he was shot early Saturday, Gwinnett County police said. There were multiple shooters, but witnesses had left by the time officers arrived, police said.

Branch’s father told Channel 2 why he and his wife decided to let their son attend the party.

“I felt and she felt he’s done the things that we’ve asked of him, so let him enjoy some parts of his summer,” he said. “Let’s not just make it all work and no play.”

There are no updates in the case, police spokesman Cpl. Deon Washington said Thursday. And this frustrates Saviour Branch.

“They’re still telling me that there’s no statements. They have no leads,” he said. “So you’re telling me from the night of this incident up to today there’s just nothing?
