A Marietta man has been indicted for trying to bribe an officer with beer and money to get out of a DUI charge.

Lazaro Hernandez's charges include bribery, driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to obey person directing traffic and an open container violation, according to court records.

Hernandez was 24 when he got arrested.

In June, he tried to pass an officer who was directing traffic at the scene of a fatal crash in Smyrna, and was pulled over. The officer smelled alcohol on Hernandez and saw an open Corona beer on his floor board, police said.

From the backseat of a patrol car, he tried to bribe the officer with $200, then $400 and, finally, $400 and some beer if the cop would drive Hernandez to a gas station.

Hernandez told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution at the time that he was 10 miles away from home when he was caught.

"I don’t even remember saying that," Hernandez said about the bribery at the time. "I was just playing. I was drunk. I woke up in jail."
