A Cobb County woman has been charged with vehicular homicide after a Domino’s pizza delivery driver she hit in December died this week, police said.

Sydney Watson, 22, of Marietta, was arrested Monday in connection with the Dec. 16 incident that killed 56-year-old Richard Sirota. Watson also faces failure to maintain lane and DUI charges.

A woman is in jail after a man died following a crash in Cobb County.

According to an arrest warrant, Watson was driving along Trickum Road near Wickingham Drive in Marietta when she traveled onto the opposite side of the road and struck Sirota’s car.

Sirota had just finished a delivery before the deadly head-on crash.

Watson had a strong alcohol odor on her mouth and stumbled out of her car, according to the warrant. An empty bottle of vodka was also found in the front passenger seat.

“I think it was a senseless death,” witness Samantha White told Channel 2. “I mean the poor guy was simply on his way back to work.”

Watson remains in the Cobb County Detention Center without bond.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
